Que?
Welcome to the party. You are now an official interest group. Just like business groups, labor, teachers, chemical companies, environmental groups, farmers, ethnic groups, and so on. This weekend, Houston area boogers, errr, bloggers will get together for a brunch and have invited local candidates and their campaign staff to attend - for a get together session of sorts. Next thing you know they'll elect a Chair. Then a spokesperson. Then regular meetings. Then the dreaded by-laws. Then screenings. Then endorsements. Then newsletters. Then dress codes. Then dues. Then they'll have statewide conventions where the "blogger of the year" will be announced. Then they'll have corporate sponsorships at their conventions. What's wrong with just stopping by Round Table?
That's mighty cute of Marc to respond this way since I was polite enough to extend an invite to the aforementioned get together. Now, if I might be so bold as to suggest that Marc doesn't quite grasp this whole "blog" thing fully:
We'll have a newsletter? Helloooooo!!! I already have one, it's called GregsOpinion.com.
Endorsements? Yeah, I've already endorsed Jay Aiyer. I'm sure there'll be some bloggers that endorse other candidates in whatever race they care to. But I'm pretty sure we bloggers will disagree on our candidate choices much like we disagree on every other topic under the sun. But as a group? Not bloody likely.
Spokesperson? I speak for me. So I guess I'm guilty of this one. "Busted," sayeth my spokesperson!
Dress Code? Seriously? Dude, check with ANYONE who has seen me out in public. I'm lucky if I can find matching socks.
Dues? Does my webhosting bill count?
Bylaws? I'm having a helluvenuff time getting a PAC prospectus together. But that's for a different project.
Statewide conventions/Blogger of the Year ... partially right here. We've entertained the idea of a convo. Bloggers are all over and it serves a purpose to get together and meet from time to time whether we love one another or not. For the record, the City Council Brunch gig is open to bloggers on both sides of the spectrum. We've already got candidate RSVPs from both sides. As for awards ceremony, I think that's been nixed since I know I'll never win and nobody wants to see my bawling my eyes out at some awards ceremony.
Round Table. I've sat at many tables which happened to be round (though I greatly prefer a booth when available). But to date, I have not been offered an invite (let alone a secret map to the hidden location) to the "Round Table."
Ironic ain't it? Here I go and extend an invite to someone for an event and end up getting slammed by never showing my mug at some other event that I've never had an invite to. Gratitude for ya.
Next time, a simple "No thanks" will suffice, Marc.
Come on, Greg. Marc can't be bothered with that stuff. Between innings at Astros games, he's working on a fictional campaign for the West Wing and, after that, he's screwing up campaign finance reports for his non-fictional clients. He's a busy, busy guy.
Yeah, I know. We mere bloggers envy that sorta life. S'why I keep hoping my letters to Geena Davis get answered.
I was wondering what Campos was talking about. What a swell guy.
Still waiting for him to explain to us uppity kids (using small words, I trust) why running a Democrat in SD7 is such a bad idea.
