Texas Thursday :: Paul Hackett - Honorary Texan

It's time to put money where mouth is in naming Paul Hackett an Honorary Texan for the remainder of the election cycle. Texas Bloggers, led by Burnt Orange Report, Off the Kuff, PinkDome, and Greg's Opinion (that'd be me) are calling today upon all Texans (and friends of Texas) to join ranks and donate towards the very cause we have been arguing for this past week - Run Everywhere, because it's what our Party and our Democracy needs.

Paul Hackett (OH-02)$

Sayeth me:

His success is our success, not just as Texas Democrats, but as Democrats period.

"Paul Hackett is hereby granted "Temporary Texan" status from now and election day in the Ohio 2nd (August 2). I'm pretty sure I have no legal standing whatsoever to convey Texan-ship, but who am I to let that stop me?"

Sayeth Karl-T:

Certainly not us Greg. So join us today, in a special edition, Texas Thursday, for Honorary Texan Paul Hackett. Let's roll.

So let's make it happen ... surely the Texas blogger crowd is worth a cool grand or so in this race, isn't it? Election Day is Tuesday, I'm in for a Jackson after payday. Who's with me?

QUICK UPDATE: Kuff dares us to read this MyDD post and maintain normal blood pressure. True, it's a steep challenge, but I think it's high time to just call these people who put party over country what they are: anti-American.

ASTRONAUTICAL UPDATE: John Glenn puts out the word to his fellow Ohioans to volunteer for Hackett's campaign. Reading Glenn's note is a reminder of the stark contrast that exists between us and the other side in how we view military service. Well worth a full read.

$$$:

Paul is a proud Marine who bravely volunteered to serve America in Iraq. Here?s one of the facts about Paul that impresses me the most. Paul didn?t just volunteer to go to Iraq. When he got there, he volunteered again. Only two months into his tour of duty in Iraq, Paul volunteered to go to Fallujah. Extremists and insurgents had seized the city and Paul knew they had to be stopped.

Now Paul is volunteering for another tour of duty, serving Ohio in Congress.

Believe me, at a time when Washington is making crucial decisions about U.S. policy in Iraq, we need the voice of a person who has lived through that experience ? someone who knows what it?s like when the bullets are flying and the bombs are exploding.

JAW-DROPPING UPDATE: Holy Toledo Portsmouth, Batman. Is GOP candidate Jean Schmidt the second coming of Taftian isolationism?

NOVOTNY: His opponent, Republican frontrunner Jean Schmidt, a former state representative who is not convinced that time served in battle can compare to experience at home.

JEAN SCHMIDT, OHIO REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE: Everything?s local. Of course, it?s more important here. The issues that the people have are more important to those individuals than anything outside of that region.

What a completely pre-9/11 sentiment to express. "War on Terror? What War on Terror?"

Haven't you heard, there IS no war on terror. It's now a "Global Struggle to End Extremism." Or something like that.

Damn ... I thought we were privatizing democracy.
