St. Senator Lindsay ... Out!

The 7th District for the State Senate just opened up as Jon Lindsay has stepped aside. This has got to put into motion "Moldy" Joe Nixon's quest for a safe seat, so I expect him and former CD10 candidate Ben Streusand to be in the hunt. Quorum Report adds Peggy Hamric to the list, which is the second time her name has been dropped.

From the GOP side, I'd expect Nixon and Streusand to dogfight this out. But Kronberg doesn't mention Houston City Councilman Mark Ellis, who's expressed rather open interest in the seat. Also, I'll be curious to see if any other State Reps get into the race. Point being that one more into the mix and that may well blunt a bit of whatever edge Nixon might have in the district.

For Democrats, the goal here is simple ... run someone and make sure they're out on the streets walking, talking, and dropping lit where nobody's home. An active campaign may well be a losing effort in a district that tends to go 75-25 Republican. But this is possibly the best shot to see the district go 30, 35, or maybe even 40% for a Democrat. If Joe Nixon's the nominee, we've got a real opening here to do some good for the party overall.

UPDATE: Kristen Mack's apparently off the beat for covering campaign typography and has a few names dropped into her article: Dwayne Bohac & Corbin Van Arsdale.

Wait & see, but I'd have to think the race would be tempting for a host of GOP officeholders since it could well be an office held for life.

You want to know how a Dem can make inroads in this district? Be firmly and loudly against the Grand Parkway F-2 segment that Lindsay has worked so hard to ram down our throats.
