Texas State Reps Get Their Blog On

LONE STAR RISING ... a new venture by Aaron Pena to allow his fellow legislators an irregular blog outlet. Thus far, three takers:

  • Joe Deshotel ... shortest take ever by a rookie:
All these Republicans welcoming the retired teachers but won't vote to fully fund there retirement and health care benefits, shameful.

  • Veronica Gonzales ... talking points, anyone?
Texas is a great state but it can become even greater if we keep to our values and take care of our most needy and our most vulnerable.

No word, however, on Gonzales' views on puppies, mom, apple pie, and most importantly ... baseball.

  • Rafael Anchia ...hurrah! At last, some detail. Anchia also gets the mantle of reform that Democrats must stand for as a party. Also good!

Now ... question becomes this: how long before Mark Strama (who has been involved in the intersection of politics and technology prior to his election) finally dips his toe into this whole "blog" thing.

Strama is Anchia's deskmate. Probably not long.

This is off-thread, but I am going to comment on it anyway. DAILY KOS quotes Sentor Corzine in an article as saying:

Corzine: "So while I respect the contribution of the DLC and while I respect its leaders, I'm not ready to join. The answer to 'compassionate conservatism' isn't timid progressivism...."

Is this the same Senator Corzine who headed the DSCC in 2004 and lost five seats in the South that were held by Democrats? Is this the same Corzine who was so Liberal on defense, foreign policy and social issues that he would not have helped any of the Democratic candidates for these southern Democratic Senate seats if he had gone and stumped for the candidates himself, which he did not do? Is this the same Corzine who is giving up his Senate seat, because he has decided that he is bored with Washington and wants to spend his millions trying to buy the governorship in New Jersey? Corzine could have helpe the national Democratic Party regain competitiveness and become the majority party again, but his own actions and voting record further entrenched the public impression that Liberal Democrats are soft on national security and are out of touch with ordinary Americans on values issues. Corzine can fulminate against the DLC, as can DAILY KOS. In contrast, the DLC is fighting to make the Democratic Party true to its old values, the values that made it the majority party from FDR to LBJ. Senator Corzine has not been listening, but the American people have said no to the party of McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry and Dean repeatedly. Corzine can go back home to New Jersey, where he will continue to treat politics as a personal hobby rather than as a public service. He certainly did nothing to improve things in Washington. He was an abject failure as DSCC chairman. Corzine leaves no political legacy behind him in Washington.

DAILY KOS used to say that the Democratic Party should emulate Harry Truman. Well, that is exactly what the centrist DLC and even Liberal Hawks have been arguing. Anybody who thinks that Harry S. Truman would approve of what appears on DAILY KOS did not live through the late 1940s and early 1950s or do much reading about the Truman Administration.
