Still in recovery mode, but a few thoughts worth tossing into the hopper for upcoming Houston City Hall elections.
I managed to catch my own councilmember Saturday morning with the Sharpstown Democrats meeting. Not a lot of political discussion, but when asked pointedly if he was running for re-election, Khan dodged. But fear not, Khan has already set up a fundraiser next month for his re-election to District F. Hizzoner, Mayor White, will be in attendance.
Dunno whose sources are good and whose aren't, but there's a few crossed signals and a one new one to report ... biggest being that Campos Communications has Republican Hector Longoria pencilled in for the At Large #2 seat that already has Jay Aiyer, Sue Lovell, and John Elford. Longoria had previously been running for an At Large the last go-round before Michael Berry got an important phone call that it'd be in his best interests to NOT continue his quixotic mayoral bid. Longoria then became a martyr for the cause, taking his race to the heavily Democratic Dist. H and doing rather poorly despite dropping a ton of jack on the campaign. In all honesty, I'm not sure how to really read this if its true. On the one hand, he splits the GOP vote with Elford, but could also be a good bet for the runoff if he gets a good percentage of Hispanic votes. We'll see who has the best connections soon enough in that race, though. Stay tuned for HectorLongoria.com for info, too.
The remainder of the news is that ex-Survivor contestant Jolanda Jones name keeps bouncing around. The strongest, most trustable feedback I get is that she's in At Large #1 against Peter Brown and Jeff Daily. But the Houston Contractors Assn. has her pencilled in for that At Large #2 race. They also leave out a good deal of info, so I'm not sure how much credence to put into that report. Just a shoutout to the bigwigs there: you're getting scooped by rank amateur bloggers! That's gotta sting a little.
Sidenote on Jo ... WOW, what a missed opportunity!!! You were on primetime television, you knew damn freakin' well that it was going to be for all of one lousy episode ... and you didn't even bother to update your campaign site in order to promote your candidacy (for whichever race). I'm stupified that ANYONE could let that sort of publicity go by without at least milking it for SOMETHING!!! For someone the fellow castaways referred to as a "real go-getter," this move seems to qualify as a real "go-nowhere."
