A Burning Education Issue

SAN FRANCISCO / School year's early start burns parents

Only in San Francisco. How 'bout a splitting of the difference on this one, though? Let the parents go to Burning Man and let the kids spend Day One in school watching the documentary about same in order to see what a bunch of granola nuts their parents truly are.

Some of the Democratic politicians in California have this same mentality. Remember the phrase San Francisco Democrats? It stuck and caused a lot of damage for a number of years.

Now, on a completely unrelated topic, have you been following the reports that Minnesota Senator Mark Dayton is not going to run for reelection? What is the reason he is retiring? The press report I read said he has low favoribility ratings. Why? Because of his strident opposition to Bush? I am not a fan of Dayton's ultraLiberalism, but would like the Senate seat to stay Democratic. What Democrats have statewide appeal and could mount a competitive statewide campaign? I know you are from Texas, but do you have any thoughts on the matter? Does anybody else out there? One presumes Minnesota Democrats won't turn to Walter Mondale again. Only kidding. What about Tim Penny or did he burn his bridges to the Democratic Party as a third party gubernatorial candidate, running under the aegis of Jesse Ventura? Given Penny's views on Social Security, that would give a lot of Democrats fits. Roger Moe, who lost the last gubernatorial race to Republican Tim Pawlenty? What about Colin Peterson, although hardly any more popular with Liberals than Penny? As a Blue Dog, he might keep a Conservative Republican from winning. Hubert H. Humphrey III, HHH's son? Anybody else out there?
