Giving Meaning to Loss
washingtonpost.com: On Campaign Trail, a Single Shot
I've never made heads or tails of those who view the loss of American life in Iraq as a sign that we should cut and run. I keep thinking what that would mean for the lives of those who fought. Reading this article on the death of 1st Lt. Nainoa K. Hoe would seem to give a clarion call to why seeing Iraq through to the end would seem to give such loss more meaning than just turning tail and heading home. I'm thinking that with 8 million votes cast in free elections in Iraq, Hoe's life was given far more meaning than had we reversed course. Just a hunch.
