The Strayhorn Shuffle
HoustonChronicle.com - Strayhorn hints against running for governor
I've said it once, I'll say it again ... there's no way Carole Keeton Strayhorn remains on the ballot as a Republican in 2006.
Unless, that is, she scares off Susan Combs' run for Comptroller by sitting still.
Will Strayhorn run for re-election as Comptroller? And if so, will Ag Commish Susan Combs stay in that race, or turn tail to run for reelection herself? and if Combs keeps her hat in the Comptroller race, will this lure Harris County Tax Assessor Paul Bettencourt to jump into a crowded bar fight?
With so many questions, it sure would be a damn shame to see a few uncontested primaries on the GOP side ... at least somewhere. Even on the US Senate side, a new name has popped up on the radar: Pete Sessions. Fresh off his huge win over Martin Frost in a district that is about 65% Republican (Sessions underperformed by 10%), Sessions is feeling on top of the world. Now if only he could write a $10 million dollar check to his campaign (as Dewhurst can) or have an Hispanic surname (as Henry Bonilla does).
