Emanuel as DCCC Pick
The New York Times > Washington > Democrats Pick Campaign Chief
Give him some credit, this is not a bad quote out of the gate:
"Some people argue about old Democrats and new Democrats," Mr. Emanuel said in explaining his philosophy. "I'm a Vince Lombardi Democrat. Winning is everything."

Rahm Emanuel is a good choice for DCCC chairman. He is a Clintonite and New Democrat, who has shown he can work effectively with both Liberals and Centrists. Moreover, Emanuel is an extremely able fund raiser. I think, however, that the Democrats will also need to do something that they failed to do in the last House elections. The DCCC very badly needs to assemble a team of centrists, Blue Dogs, etc. with safe seats who can serve as surrogates on behalf of Democratic challengers in Red and Purple House Districts. In 2004, for example, it sometimes seemed that the only House Democratic leader who was welcome in Southern Districts was Steny Hoyer. Pelosi and prominent Liberals were of no value to Democratic House candidates in border states and in the deep south. Democratic candidates in close races would not even have wanted to be on the same platform as Pelosi.
