Rwanda's Lessons

Boston.com / News / Boston Globe / Opinion / Op-ed / Rwanda's lessons yet to be learned

Interesting contribution comparing Rwanda to Sudan & Congo by Don Cheadle (star of Hotel Rwanda) and John Prendergast (former Clinton NSC official). It's a fairly moving column, but the only quibble I might suggest is that it uses 1994 as something of a starting point while the typical response to genocide has remained unchanged over the course of history. We began muttering "Never Again" after the Nazi Holocaust became evident to us in the 1940s, but we still do not live up to it. In fact, we never have.

It's not every day I read a substantive work from a movie star and say "Yeah, that's great stuff" ... Cheadle's is a first in that regard. Read the whole thing.
