Joe on Defense Cuts

Compare this with Kay Granger's oinking sounds ...

"This is going to be a tough year for the Defense Department budget," Lieberman said. "I hope we will make a judgment about what is militarily necessary and then find a way to fund it, but not start with a budget number and cut ... regardless of national security."

Hell, that even tops Chris Dodd's ruminations from the same article:

Lawmakers also expressed concern about the Navy's submarine program. In a recent letter to Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., urged support for plans to increase submarine building from one to two per year beginning in 2009.

He said he did not agree with submarine force levels outlined by Navy officials in a classified briefing, and added that "any further delay of a two-ship per year production rate could cause great harm to our military capabilities and national industrial base."

The submarines are built, in part, at Electric Boat in Groton, Conn.

Just another proud day for Joe fans everywhere ....

Although there are other issues with Rumsfeld, this overhaul of the DoD is one of the reasons he is disliked by politicians.

If 9/11 hadn't occurred, Rumsfeld would have begun closing military bases. Then these politicians would have really howled (or squealled).

I agree with Senator Joe Lieberman 100%. Yes, admirers of Lieberman should once again feel proud of him.
