Mmmmm ... BBQ
Where's the Beef? Few legislatures are as secretive as Texas'
There's a really good point made in this article about recorded votes in the state lege ... which I heartily favor. But this issue is bigger:
Context: North & South Carolina are listed as other states that don't record votes ...
The other two states, North and South Carolina, are more problematic. True, these Red States share many affinities with Texas. But they are tragically and unforgivably wrong about one big thing: barbecue. Those poor sinners labor under the illusion that "barbecue," properly understood, involves pork, not beef, as God intended. Worse, parts of the Carolinas prefer a "sauce" of ? we're not making this up ? vinegar and spices, while other regions slather mustard-based unguents on their meat.
As reputable barbecue theologians teach, barbecue is beef and is served with thick, dark, sweet sauce on the side. If the Carolinas err on a matter as metaphysically consequential as barbecue doctrine, how can the Texas Legislature follow their lead on recorded votes? What's next down this slippery slope into the mustard-based cesspool? Grey Poupon on ribs at Stubb's? In front of the children, too!
We remove our tongues from our collective cheek and call on the Lone Star Legislature to take a stand against East Coast decadence. Pass recorded votes now. The brisket you save may be your own.
Best case ever for recording legislative votes!
