Ted Cruz

Upon first glance, I nearly missed this:

High Court Orders Reconsideration of Texas Districting

While I'm not sure what to possibly anticipate from a review at the lower court level, I do know that the bulk of the damage has been done in regards to redistricting already. But what really caught my attention was this:

Ted Cruz, Texas' solicitor general, said that the lawmakers were trying to reverse maps that benefited Democrats. He said the state is solidly Republican, and the new boundaries are not out-of-line.

So I ask myself ... who is this bastion of legal objectivity, Ted Cruz?

Apparently, he's been doing political hack jobs on John Kerry while serving as Solicitor General of Texas.

Nice ....

Yes, because everybody knows that once you take public office, you immediately surrender all your rights to criticize anybody. Ever.

Here, read some biographical information on this truly remarkable man. I'll be glad to help educate you on Ted Cruz...

"He has been named by Newsweek magazine as one of 20 young Hispanic Americans on the rise, and twice named by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America.

Ted is the son of a Cuban immigrant, was raised in Texas, and attended Princeton University and the Harvard Law School. At Princeton, he was Chairman of the University Undergraduate Council, two-time U.S. national champion debater, and the number-one ranked collegiate speaker in North America. At Harvard, he was a Primary Editor of the Harvard Law Review, an Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding Editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. He graduated Harvard magna cum laude and was named a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics. In 1995, he served as a law clerk to Judge J. Michael Luttig on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and in 1996 as a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist on the Supreme Court of the United States."

"His father, a Castro freedom fighter, fled Cuba and the Batista regime in 1957 and arrived in America with only the shirt on his back and $100 sewn into his underwear. He settled in Texas, renounced La Revoluci?n, and raised Ted as a Republican."

Why are you trying to keep the Latino man down, Greg? =) One would think that a caring liberal like yourself would be appreciative of ANYBODY who has worked so hard and suffered much to overcome Communism and poverty.

Except you don't feel that way about Ted Cruz because he is a Republican, eh? =)

Get some sleep Greg. You've been working hard. Only two more weeks...

Chris--

I knew Ted in college, and I won't waste your time saying what I thought of him. But I will note that that bio is either mistaken or deceitful. Ted never won the national championship in debate, though he was Team of the Year for 1992.

OK, Joe... of Joe @ joe.com =)

Its not a bio I wrote, and I admit, I'm not one to have checked that particular reference out.

But way to catch that. It dwarfs all the other listed accomplishments. =)

Chris--

I didn't think you wrote it, and I don't blame you for the error.

The "mistake" isn't significant, especially since Ted was a very fine debater. But the exaggeration may say something about his character. Or perhaps it doesn't.

Now my alias says something about _my_ character, but I'm neither running for office nor making anything but a factual correction. If I were to offer my full appraisal of the great man, I'd sign it for real.

Take care--
