The Vapidness of Campaign 2004

Bush Describes Kerry's Health Care Proposal as a 'Government Takeover'

Considering that one of the ideas Bush is touting is a reprisal of a central tenet of Hillarycare, calling John Kerry out for a "government takeover" of health care is about as vapid an argument as can be made. Add to this, that Bush's divisive rhetoric continues unabated:

"What would you expect from a senator from Massachusetts?" he asked Monday morning in Muskegon, his first stop. "That's what you would expect - a government takeover of health care with an enormous price tag."

There you go again, George ... pitting region against region. Way to be a uniter. Meanwhile, Bush has yet to explain how he'd pay for his own government "takeovers" - the pharmaceutical buyout provision known as prescription drug coverage for seniors and his "faux-ownership society" provision for Social Security.

But I'll give credit where credit is due. Bush is right when he slams Kerry for pointing out that Bush's privatized Social Security concept would undercut the system. In fairness, we'd have to see how Bush would pay for it before we could determine that. I mean, given his track record up to date, its completely feasible that Bush would just run deficits to pay for it rather than undercut the system.
