Alas, It Has a Name!
And they called it genocide ... FINALLY!
What still bugs the everyloving crap out of me on this matter is that rather than talk of troops going in to resolve the matter, we're hoping that sanctions do the trick. 5,000 troops on the ground and this nonsense would stop in its tracks. But no ... let's refuse to ship personal computers to the Sudanese. That'll teach 'em.
For the "equal opportunity" enthusiasts, I'll note my own distaste for slowness on matters of genocide as being borne of frustration at having seen this happen with Rwanda. That was Clinton's watch and his mistake. Upon reading an article on Rwanda (penned by Samantha Power), it's told that President Bush scribbled in the margins "Not on my watch" as if to proclaim more determined resolve. Well, guess what ... it's already been going on ... on his watch. While I'll applaud the one solitary step of calling the spade a spade (an important step in and of itself according to the Genocide Treaty), I'll also not bother excusing my impatience for action.

Threatened French vetoes in the UN security council is exactly why we are only talking about sanctions, and exactly why even those have been delayed over and over.
Waiting for multilateral consensus sometimes means waiting idly by for french diplomats to come around while genocide continues to take place.

Amazing ... so why is Bush waiting for French approval for anything, then? Last I checked, they were against that sort of thing. Did they flip flop?
