Closing Thoughts ...

A few pithy thoughts for the end of the blogging day (I need to play catchup on some projects that will tie me up tonight):

  • Al Gore Goes Nuts - Yes, I know ... red meat sells. But Gore's speech calls for the ouster of Rummy, Rice, Tenet, Wolfowitz, Cambone, & Feith. In short, he wants to hand out pink slips with the same frenetic pace that some in the GOP wish to amend the constitution. At what point does not one just be done with it and suggest that because of certain differences, Bush himself might be the one who needs to go?

  • Charlie Cook's Congressional Profiles - a short rundown of some of the more competitive seats, with plenty of the Texas seats given some mention. Among the conclusions it affects on my part: Chet Edwards is given more hope and Max Sandlin less.

Edwards' bump is noted for three factors: Despite the GOP tilt in the new district, Arlene's State Rep district only accounts for 20% of it; Chet's an Aggie (studied under Phil Gramm, in fact) and the layout of the map gives him some leverage to peel otherwise GOP-friendly voters in Brazos county; Cook notes Chet's reputation as a skillful campaigner.

Sandlin's knocks? He's had limited competition since being voted in initially. The GOP tilt in Tyler/Longview is more pronounced than in most spots, also. Add to it that Sandlin, though distinctly within the moderate realm of the party, has not gone full-tilt-Stenholm in his voting, so to speak ... so the ideological fit may not seem as conducive as it did in the old 1st.

Well, of course they all need to go. That's what electing John Kerry will do. That's not nuts.
