Filing Time Approaches

Remap puts candidates in limbo

Biggest news coming out of this is that John Lindsay and Peggy Hamric have opted out of a run for the new-look 10th Congressional District. More news is that Martin Frost is filing one place or another regardless of how the new map is ruled on. Somewhere in between those on the richter scale is that Randy Neugebauer will have a fundraiser tomorrow in ... Abiline ... with Dick Cheney. Abiline is in the new district, and Stenholm verbally guards his turf.

For those marking your calendars at home, there's this to note:

Candidates for all other offices in Texas have until Jan. 2 to file, but U.S. House candidates will get another window, from Jan. 11 to 16 ? if the court approves the new map.

MEANWHILE: Jeffrey Toobin has a great article in The New Yorker about the Texas redistricting mess.

Comments

This quote from Stenholm sums it all up:

"The great sin I committed is that I won the last election 51-47 in a district that went 71-28 for President Bush. But I am a conservative Democrat, and that?s why these people vote for me. There shouldn?t be a penalty for reaching out across party lines.?
