Mayoral Election Crazy Season
I don't put a lot of stock into SurveyUSA, but here's the latest, via KPRC:
Bill White - 38%
Orlando Sanchez - 32%
Sylvester Turner - 26%
Others/Undecided - 4%
Coupla things ... SurveyUSA has just about the worst rep in the industry, the poll only has a sample size of 454, and SUSA has a dizzying tendency to rely on automated polling that typically gets a high hangup rate. That said, they have a fairly decent defense of their track record online. So I'll give them some credit for openness. But how on earth can the Houston electorate be accurately sampled from 454? With a more than sizable number of subgroups, I've got to think you want that number over 750-800. That said, I'll take what comfort I can in a poll that shows a 6-point lead for the guy I'm supporting.
Sanchez launches first TV ad attacking White
The Chron reports that Sanchez is getting aggressive on the trail, also. This isn't a shock. Sanchez began pointing out the ideological differences a bit more stridently in recent debates. Thus far, White's retort has been to paint Sanchez as a dirty campaigner and hope this rubs independents and swayable partisans the wrong way. John Williams wrote a little more about this about a week ago. His question then, I think, will come down to the runoffs ... will Bill White respond in kind?
Stay tuned ....
