Soft Money Hits Houston
Mayor hopefuls get boost from unregulated funds
It doesn't take long in reading this article to see why the two GOP candidates are worried sick about Bill White. The hard money race has White in the lead, with double Orlando's funds raised thus far. So I guess the only question left will be if the "Liberal" Bill White tag sticks about as well as the "Liberal" Lloyd Bentsen tag did back in the day.
Comments
I don't see White as being "liberal" to be his cheif liability and if I were in the Sanchez or Berry campaigns, that wouldn't be my criticism. Rather, White is the "establishment" candidate, the one the Chronicle is most likely to endorse and the one the business community is rallying around.
So was Lee Brown.

Orlando might have a hard time taking up that tactic.

I think it's safe to say that there's a difference between being the Republican establishment candidate and part of the establishment that got and kept Lee Brown in office.
