The GOP Takes Aim At White

Political.com :: Political Analysis presented by George Strong & Associates

Interesting little ploy here ... the county GOP is taking direct aim at Bill White in the mayor's race (apparently, this was on the news one of those days I get to sleep early). George Strong seems a little perplexed as to why the county GOP is doing this ... I'm not sure how coy he's trying to be. It's rather obvious.

Sylvester Turner will not be mayor ... it's that simple. If he makes the runoff, it's payoff time for whoever is facing him. Granted, my early money is still on a 52-48 style outcome, so there's a thin margin of error. But if Bill White is in the runoff with Sanchez, then things look good for White (again, just by a hair ... and there's still several lifetimes left in this game).

It's very conceivable - to me at least - that even a White vs Turner runoff could happen. White's been polling well and he's got one trump card to play that the prior 17% candidates did not: personal wealth to spend on the campaign.

Oh, there's also the fact that another candidate of the same cloth is making some hay around town: Peter Brown. Imagine the headlines if Brown and White sweep into office together. At least they'll be color coordinated.

All in all, history has tempered this 17% Voter to lower expectations but to also keep fighting the good fight. Too many 10pm concession speeches have formed that mindset. But as Cubs fans attest to ... there's always hope.

SIDENOTE: All these special sessions in Austin ... that's gotta hurt Sly's chances for Mayor if they keep that up.

I wish I had the confidence that you do, but I am not anticipating a White-Sanchez run off and, furthermore, I predict Sylvester Turner will in fact be the next mayor of our illustrious town.

I gotta go with Alex on this one. More later, but I should do some work at work I suppose.
