NBC5 Predicts Republican Landslide in Texas ... Coattails to follow

nbc5i.com - Politics - NBC 5 Exclusive: Voters' Poll

Now this is rich ... DFW's NBC affiliate ran a poll & this is what they got:

Perry - 56%
Sanchez - 29%
Undecided - 15%

Cornyn - 56%
Kirk - 30%
Undecided - 14%

Dewhurst - 50%
Sharp - 31%
Undecided - 18%

Anyone here buying that? In the breakdown for the Guv race, they have Perry leading Sanchez in South Texas 50-32. They say the polled likely voters, so one of two things is bound to happen. Democrats go into hibernation in Texas after this election, or Channel 5 wipes a lot of egg off its face.

The poll numbers are pretty off-base, I'd say. I think there will be a last-minute shift to the candidate the average Texas is most likely to be comfortable with. I think that spells good news for Perry (incumbant), Cornyn (the man oozes comforting), and Sharp (experienced, qualified).

In the case of Sharp, I'm not sure if it will be enough. He was down my 8 points to Rick Perry in most polls in 1998 and came within a couple and came the second closest. I suspect he'll do the best this time around, but it won't matter if it's another GOP sweep.
