O'Neill Resigns
Treasury Secretary O%u2019Neill Resigns (washingtonpost.com)
Well hell, I had money on Whitman or Mineta being the first ones to quit.
UPDATE: Well, I hadn't really been looking to read too much into this, even though O'Neill was one of the more responsible economic people on hand, IMO. But now, PolticalWire is saying that the WSJ (via a subscriber-only story) is saying that Lawrence Lindsey has also resigning. That's pretty grim news.

To hell with quitting; they ought to just can Mineta outright.

Being the cynic that I am, I think he was only kept on because Bush borrowed from the Greg Wythe School of Picking a Cabinet: Who really gives a rat's behind about Transportation Secretary?

I suppose I should pay a bit more attention to politics.. I have slipped quite a bit since reaching the legal voting age- sad.. don't cabinet members like hand in their resignation when they're sworn in... that way it can be pulled on them whenever?

I'd have agreed all the way up to 9/10/01.

Wow! That is a bit stunning. I thought he was ear-marked. Looks like it will be Charles Schwab.

I gotta admit, if you wanted to name two people to off from this Administration, there aren't many other that would make a Democrat a little leery of where they're going next. 'course, Colin Powell trumps both of em and would probably count for two cabinet members alone ... but that could just be me whistling that tune.

*UPDATE*
NRO posits Chris DeMuth (AEI) as replacement for O'Neill. Preliminary searches I just did vaguely suggest a background with environmental issues. Sounds like a reach...

Interesting name, and even though any promotion of the name by the Buckley-ites would normally worry me, I'd think Bush could do a lot worse. Case to be made that he'll be the pick as he did some campaign work for Bush, worked in the OMB, and does appear to be the best and brightest at AEI.
